ELASTIC THUMP is a modern, melodic take on urban funk that brews the smoothness of R&B with the feel-good vibes of dance music and the bounce of futuristic, beathead culture. It’s the perfect palette for those who defy genre and create tracks that both beat-loving head nodders and shuffling club goers will love.

REFLECTIONS OF TOMORROW

Over the last few years, a new genre of music has emerged. It fuses street-smart, beat music with uptempo synths and the positive energy of house music. This future funk is inspired by 90s R&B, 80s urban funk, and feel-good body music, influenced by modern genres like trap, bass, and footwork. It reached a global audience through the popular podcasts from the LA-based Soulection crew, and can be found in works from artists like Kaytranada, Anderson .PAAK, Mr. Carmack, Lakim, Dâm-Funk, and GoldLink.

BUTTERY BEATS SOAKED IN ANALOG WARMTH

Following this same consciousness, ELASTIC THUMP bumps with rubbery bass, luscious analog synths, liquid vocal chops, and crunchy acoustic drums. Sounds lovingly recorded from the Roland Juno 106, Moog Minitaur, and Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators ooze with analog butteriness. Sampled Fender Precision bass, a Rhodes 73 keyboard, and a variety of vintage drums add a sheen of dust to the sound. And with 120 new Drum Synth sounds by MSXII, you’ll be able to shape and design your own signature beats.

ELASTIC THUMP was created in collaboration with MSXII.

ABOUT MSXII

Comprised of Michael Simpson, Matt Slack, and Daniel Steele, MSXII are known for their holistic approach to sound design. They’re dedicated to providing well-thought-out, contemporary and vintage sounds for music production, television shows, advertisements, and film.

With ELASTIC THUMP, MSXII approached each Kit as a unique musical composition, complete with FX, EQ, and unique patterns that give an inside look to the production process. Melodic instruments and vintage analog keyboards were chosen to fill the harmonic spectrum. Drum Synths patches were designed to let producers easily create and shape their own booming drums. And distant vocals were handled with precision to cut through the mix and give producers plenty of material to use in their own productions.
